We have contributed a report to the CDP Water Security Report 2023: Japan Edition, published by CDP Worldwide-Japan, titled “Current Trends in Plastics Issues and the Status of Efforts by Japanese Companies as Seen from the Responses”.

The above report was presented at the “CDP Water Security 2023 Japan Summary Report” at the CDP Awards Japan 2024 held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, where our Co-founder & CEO, Ryuichi Horie, made the presentation.

For fiscal 2023, we served as a Scoring partner (for “Climate change”, “Water security” and “Forests” questionnaires) and scored the responses from each company, and we also collaborated with CDP as a Report writer on Water security and contributed to this report.

PRI and CSRD have published a briefing report on sustainable finance policies, including a potential sustainable finance taxonomy for Japan. The report, prepared in both English and Japanese, is based on surveys among PRI signatories and interviews of relevant ministry officials.

GPIF joined GRESB Infrastructure as an Investor Member

GPIF announced that they joined GRESB Infrastructure as an investor member.

GPIF has taken ESG factors into consideration in its investment decision-making. It joined GRESB as a Real Estate investor member in 2020 and now they also joined as a GRESB Infrastructure investor member.
According to its press release; “GPIF joins GRESB as the Infrastructure Investor Member in order to encourage the disclosure of ESG information in the whole infrastructure investment field and promote constructive dialogue with investment managers. In compliance with our stewardship responsibilities, GPIF advises managers to use GRESB Assessment in their infrastructure investment and management process.”

PCAF Japan, for which we act as the Japan secretariat, has announced the workplan for the fiscal year 2022

The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) Japan, for which CSRD acts as the Secretariat, has announced its workplan for FY2022. The workplan focuses on encouraging participating financial institutions (FIs) to share their experience, knowledge, and issues with other FIs, enhancing the practice of measurement and disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions from loans and investments (financed emissions), and strengthening the collaboration with key stakeholders to tackle with the common issues. In cooperation with the PCAF Japan coalition (Chair: Mizuho Financial Group, Inc.), we will strive to advance this workplan as the PCAF Japan Secretariat.

CSRD Joins the TNFD Forum

CSRD supports the vision and mission of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and has joined the TNFD Forum.

TNFD is a global initiative launched to develop a framework for organizations to assess and report on risks and opportunities pertaining to natural capital and biodiversity, with the aim of supporting a shift in global financial flows toward nature-positive outcomes. The TNFD Forum is organized to assist in the work of the TNFD and its development.

As a TNFD Forum member, CSRD will contribute to the development of a nature-related disclosure framework and further enhancement of its support on ESG information disclosure.

Announcement of Appointment as the Japan Secretariat of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)

We are pleased to announce that we have been appointed as the Japan Secretariat of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), a carbon accounting initiative for financial institutions. In close cooperation with the PCAF Japan Coalition (Chair: Mizuho Financial Group, Inc.), we will contribute to promoting the PCAF Standard and supporting practices of assessing and disclosing the financed emissions, i.e., greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with loans and investments by financial institutions in Japan.

GRESB is on the front-page headline of Nikkei’s Evening Paper today.

The artcle points out that the number of GRESB Participants has risen by 50% in the Japanese market within the last three years, which reflects the increasing focus on ESG in the real estate and infrastructure investments.

CSRD has joined a group of TCFD supporters.

It is the 53rd supporting organization in Japan, and the first among professional service providers.

Being an advisor of UNEP FI Property Working Group, Ryuichi Horie, Co-Founder &CEO, and CSRD are aware that real asset management companies based in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia have started initiatives to report climate information in alignment with TCFD by joining a UNEP FI-led pilot group. CSRD has provided a third-party opinion on impact investment project by Industrial & Infrastructure Fund Investment Corporation.

CSRD has expressed an opinion from a third party standpoint regarding whether the asset acquisition (equity investment in a silent partnership) decided and announced by Industrial & Infrastructure Fund on January 9, 2019, is aligned with the concept of “The Principles for Positive Impact Finance” and “Positive Impact Real Estate Investment Framework” advocated by UNEP FI.

The number of participants from the Japanese market has increased to 53 (37 listed and 16 private). Among them, 34 J-REITs participated this year with four of them having joined for the first time.
